About Monica
Monica Acosta is a versatile singer and has sung for opera companies (ENO Baylis program, European Chamber Opera), choruses, vocal ensembles and has been a member of contemporary classical, Latin and Hispanic folk groups. She has worked on projects covering a wide specrum of music-making, from operas and contemporary classical music to popular and folk. She has worked with numerous conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, composers including Stephen Montague and renowned musicians such as the flamenco guitarist Stephen Homes.
Monica completed a Masters Degree in Contemporary Vocal Repertoire at Roehampton University. A scholarship was
awarded for her to attend the 2005 Dartington International Summer School where she performed the Ladino solo in Noam Sherrif’s Sephardic Passion with the Summer School
Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Malcolm Singer. She has performed in several venues and festivals included The Spitz, Cargo, Glastonbury 2003, Queen Elizabeth Hall, The
Hub at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Barbican, London Coliseum ENO, British Lybrary, etc.
Monica is very interested in music of Spanish origin and songs in Spanish-related languages. Her recent projects focus on Sephardic (Judeo-Spanish) and Tango songs. She is also involved in several collaborative projects involving contemporary and flamenco dance, contemporary music and video.
